20 °C at 850 hPa – previously a rare occurrence
The evaluations of the radio soundings in Payerne have been available digitally since 1954. This results in a series of measurements spanning around 70 years. During this period, 20 °C and more were record on a total of 251 days, which amounts to around 3.6 days per year. Between 1954 and 1980, it was only around 1.4 days per year. There were also summers in which 20 °C at 850 hPa was never reach, such as in 1954, 1955, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1969, 1970, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1982, 1990, 1996, 1997 and 2008.
